Pretzel’s channel holiday- Part two.

The whole battalion watches transfixed as the crippled fighter struggles to avoid
ditching into the cold North Sea.

Managing just to clear the shore, the fighter banks hard to the right, finds an open section of beach,
and with several frightful bounces comes to rest on the edge of the surf.

By now many of the soldatets are racing along the beach heading for the crash scene.

The canopy opens and Hauptfräut Avia fNoche emerges, clutching her wounded right hand.
Her tunic is covered in blood. She is really starting to feel the pain now…
but she is still alive…

Soon the wounded pilot is carted off to the regimental aid station and a crowd has gathered to
examine the wreck.

Machine gun holes to the engine and blood in the cockpit tell of a desperate struggle
with enemy Spitfires.

Korporolet Fishe emerges from the cockpit holding the pilot’s severed finger.

Pretzel inquires, “Was there a ring? No– Well, she won’t be needing “that” any longer.”
